Position Summary:
 
Established in 2005, the UCI CARE Office provides free and confidential support services to members of the UCI community impacted by sexual assault, relationship abuse, family violence, and/or stalking. UCI CARE aims to end these forms of power-based personal violence by engaging the campus community in education, programming, and transformative action.
 
Works under the general direction of the CARE Director and functions independently, developing strategies and goals in alignment with departmental and programmatic priorities. Supports the Director in developing and evaluating programs and services and in setting departmental goals and policy. Supervises the Prevention Education team including peer educators and interns. Serves as a subject matter expert on sexual assault, relationship abuse, stalking and family violence and represents the Director/department in a variety of settings. Responsible for the development and oversight of CARE’s holistic healing programs.

Required:
 

  • At least 5 years of experience in a counseling field, in a rape crisis center, in a collegiate office similar in size and scope to the CARE office, or similar setting.
  • At least 2 years of experience supervising staff, including student or professional staff.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • California Certification for Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor Training or equivalent training and licensure. California Certification for Domestic Violence Advocates or equivalent training and licensure.
  • Has proven ability to work with individuals who have experienced a sexual or domestic violence issue.
  • In depth experience with computer programs used in the university such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, case tracking systems and other key programs necessary to perform the requirements of the position.
  • Experience providing advocacy/support to survivors of violence.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in training and mentoring staff.
  • Motivates and inspires staff to improve programs and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people of various ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender identities.
  • Specialized knowledge/experience in providing programming or service delivery addressing trauma-informed approaches, primary prevention, bystander intervention and advocacy.
  • Advanced skills in assessing levels of emotional distress and reacting appropriately.
  • Ability to work collaboratively; strong problem solving, communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience in speaking in front of diverse audiences and the ability to adapt materials quickly so that the audience can understand the concepts being presented.

 
Preferred:
 

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience identifying extramural funding sources and grants.
  • Previous work in a college/university setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable laws and ethical standards associated with profession.

 
Special Conditions Required:
 
Able to maintain confidentiality within the bounds of applicable laws and regulations. Must pass a background fingerprint screening. Must be available to conduct/provide oversight to programs outside of regular business hours when needed.
