The Assistant Director provides leadership and strategic direction for the student organization community and associated trainings, programs, resources, and services. Guides budget and assessment plans. This role guides the student organization team, and directly supervises 2 professional staff coordinators and 1-2 undergraduate student employees. With a strong focus on partnerships and collaboration, this role builds and maintains relationships with colleagues who support student organizations across campus, collects and shares information about university resources available for student organizations, coordinates community-wide programming in partnership with other departments, and supports collaboration efforts between student organizations. In addition, this role coordinates a community-wide incentive program and general support and programming for student organization advisors. As part of the Student Activities team, this role attends team meetings and participates in committees and special projects through Student Life, the university, and community including the Council on Student Affairs.
Key Responsibilities:
30% – Supervision and Coaching: Supervises and coaches 2 professional staff Coordinators and 1-2 undergraduate student employees; Convenes student organization team meetings.
30% – Partnerships: Builds and maintains relationships with colleagues who support student organizations across campus (e.g., academic departments, sport clubs, sororities and fraternities); Collects and shares information about university resources available for student organizations (e.g., funding sources, trainings); Coordinates community-wide programming in partnership with other departments (e.g., BOLD Conference); Supports collaboration between student organizations.
30% – Strategy and Program Management: Provides leadership and strategic direction for the student organization community and associated trainings, programs, resources, and services; Provides guidance on budget and assessment plans; Coordinates community-wide incentive program; Coordinates support for advisors.
10% – Miscellaneous: Attends Student Activities meetings and participates in other Student Life committees as necessary; serves on University and community committees including Council on Student Affairs; manages special projects; performs other duties as assigned.
Required and Desired Education and Experience:
Required: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 2 years of professional work experience in Student Activities, student organizations, or similar responsibilities.
Desired: Master’s degree in higher education and student affairs or related field; experience supporting a diverse student organization community; experience supervising and coaching employees; experience working at a large collegiate institution; experience fostering inclusion within diverse communities. Additional consideration will be given to applicants with knowledge of student organization registration and funding guidelines; experience with Student Organization Success Framework and supporting student Success Coaches.
