ASU’s multi-disciplinary Power Systems Engineering Research Center (PSERC), an NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering / School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, is seeking to fill the Assistant Director position with an energetic, multi-talented, hands-on administrator who can support the PSERC Director in managing a successful, dynamic industry-university collaborative center with responsibilities from performing and overseeing day-to-day operations to marketing PSERC to industry.  The Assistant Director reports to the PSERC Director and supports the collaborative activities of PSERC.

The Assistant Director will coordinate the administrative activities of PSERC, support the Director in supervision of administrative staff, and serve as a liaison between the Director and the PSERC site directors, member companies, funding agencies, and the various industry, university, and professional communities in which PSERC has a presence. The Assistant Director will be responsible for maintaining positive and industry member relationships while encouraging and facilitating growth in the number of members as well as the research administration activities including reporting research progress to industry members; administering the research solicitation, proposal review, and selection process; overseeing project reporting; and federal agency post-award administration in cooperation with ASU research management personnel. A key responsibility in this position is the communications of PSERC events, publications, and accomplishments to all key PSERC constituencies. The Asst. Director will lead the planning for and implementation of PSERC industry-university meetings, retreats, webinars and tutorials, student job fairs, and workshops; and will be responsible for financial management, including budgeting, reporting, and member invoicing.

Essential Duties

  • Member Relations: Communicating to build PSERC’s image among PSERC members, anticipating needs, responding to requests, justifying continued membership, conducting site visits, engaging members in PSERC projects, encouraging attendance at PSERC events.
  • Membership Marketing: Preparing documents, outreach material, employing website and other forms of communication, contacting potential members identified by PSERC industry and university members, communicating PSERC’s value
  • Financial Management: Budgeting, projecting expenditures, accounting, and reporting.
  • Operations: Daily office operations, computing and information systems, word processing, excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and LaTex (preferred, not required).
  • Communications:  Ability to communicate to industry in oral and written forms, document design and production, editing and formatting, presentation software.
  • Event Management: contracting in compliance with ASU requirements, planning, budgeting, communications/marketing, contacting speakers, overseeing registration system, coordinating with local hosts, handout preparation and copying, on-site event management, expense payments, developing planning guide
  • Management of PSERC Industry-Supported Research Projects: Solicitation preparation and distribution, proposal collection, conducting review process, summarizing reviews, facilitating director and executive committee recommendation decision-making, communicating with industry
  • Personnel Management: Supervision and development of center administrative personnel in compliance with university personnel regulations, coordinating with PSERC staff in communicating with ASU management system
  • Information Systems Management: Developing and overseeing of management information system and report generation process (principally reports to industry members, sponsoring agencies, and the public at-large), and responding to requests with accurate and timely information in format required.
  • Website: Maintaining the PSERC website, enhancing the website in collaboration with PSERC’s webmaster
  • Webinars: Understanding the web platform operation, preparing presenters, assuring technical support, serving as facilitator when needed
  • Governance: Serve as an information resource on PSERC’s industry agreements, university memorandum of understanding, bylaws, and operations manual.
  • Liaison with all of PSERC’s constituencies (industry, government, faculty, and students): Guardianship of university, PSERC governance, and agency system requirements (federal regulations, proposal processing, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND six (6) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Ten (10) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a  Master’s or PhD degree in related field preferred (example areas: power systems, power electronics, energy systems, sustainability, storage, energy economics and policy, resilience, the future of green hydrogen and interplay with grid).
  • Experience with communications and public relations; administration; personnel supervision
