The Assistant Director of Veterans Benefits assists in the operation of the Military and Veterans Initiative at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The Assistant Director of Veterans Benefits reports to the Associate Director of Military and Veteran Services.
Responsibilities:
25% Evaluates the requirements and ensures compliance for receipt of federal and state military benefits for Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi by analyzing and monitoring enrollment, recruitment, the student financial account, financial aid, admissions requirements, academic requirements, and academic records, of each veteran or eligible person.
20% Oversees the certification of veteran and military-connected federal educational benefits by reporting enrollment and graduation information to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure the University’s compliance with state and federal regulations.
20% Serves as the primary manager for the University’s implementation of the Hazlewood Exemption Act. Determine student eligibility for the Hazlewood benefits. Monitor cumulative credit hours for students per term, ensure benefits are correctly applied and accounted for. Ensures compliance with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and TVC rules and reporting on Hazlewood.
20% Certifies veteran and military-connected federal educational benefits by reporting enrollment and graduation information to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure the University’s compliance with state and federal regulations.
10% Supervises the Coordinator of Veteran Benefits and the Office Coordinator in the Office of Military and Veteran Services
5% All other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Military/Veteran Services or his/her designee.
Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree.

Six (6) years of related experience.

knowledge of higher education or business operation practices, communication techniques, computer and software programs, as well as data processing and record keeping practices.

Must be able to communicate effectively in writing, operate in a challenging environment, as well as work independently to meet deadlines.

Must be able to work a non-traditional schedule as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:

Masters Degree.

Experience with VA-ONCE.

A strong military or military family connection.
