Georgetown’s Health Law LL.M Programs train lawyers to apply their specialized legal skills to improve population health in the United States and globally. The innovative full- or part-time courses of study explore the intersections of health and law, including global health governance, health and human rights, food and drug law, access to health care, and legal interventions to prevent and control infectious and non-communicable diseases.
Job Overview
The Assistant Director of Operations facilitates the daily operations of the O’Neill Institute’s Capacity Building Initiative , as well as human resources functions for the program and the larger O’Neill Institute team.
They are responsible for the administration of the Institute’s departmental human resources needs, such as routing new positions for internal Georgetown University review, posting, monitoring applicants, coordinating interviews, and onboarding new hires.
Under the direction and supervision of the Executive Director, they ensure new positions are approved and filled in a timely manner, that all sensitive staff information is kept confidential, and that all record keeping is up to date and accurate.
Under the supervision of the Global Health Law LL.M. Director and Executive Director, they facilitate the Institute’s Internship Program, Research Assistantship. and Law Fellowship.
As well, they troubleshoot and resolve routine and non-routine operational issues that arise related to the human resources functional area, which impact the Institute’s ability to achieve its departmental goals.
Work Interactions
Reporting directly to the Global Health Law LLM Director, with a dotted line reporting structure to the Executive Director, the Assistant Director of Operations engages regularly with Facilities, AV, public safety, catering, faculty support, human resources, financial affairs and other Law Center staff.
As well, they serve regularly as the point of contact for outside organizations and partners, as well as colleagues across the larger Georgetown University
To accomplish their role, they are exposed to sensitive information, which they keep confidential.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 5 to 7 years of experience – preferably at an academic institution with a special focus on capacity building programs and human resources
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to meet deadlines and produce high-quality results in an environment with competing priorities and deadlines
- Strong experience planning and managing complex projects, and establishing and maintaining effective collaborative relationships with individuals
- Excellent, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred qualification
At least 2 to 3 years event planning experience – preferably within an academic or nonprofit setting
