Reporting to the Executive Director of Graduate Admissions, the Assistant Director of International Graduate Student Services is responsible for advising international graduate student groups, particularly the Columbia University Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CUCSSA). The Assistant Director will also play a key role in global academic partnerships, international recruiting and will liaise closely with the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) and the Office of the Provost. The Assistant Director will collaborate with the School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and other Columbia schools by developing and implementing programs and services to support the diverse needs of graduate students as well as communicating and enforcing academic policies and procedures.
(50%) (1) Graduate Student Group Advisement – Advise international graduate student groups and serve as the primary advisor for the Columbia University Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CUCSSA). Responsibilities include but are not limited to: overseeing CUCSSA operations including website and social media content, reviewing event proposals, monitoring budget and payments, interfacing with the CUCSSA faculty advisor, scheduling regular meetings with the CUCSSA members executive committee, developing and implementing events on campus and abroad for Chinese undergraduate and graduate students, educating CUCSSA members about University and club governing board policies and procedures, ensuring CUCSSA members adhere to University and event planning policies and procedures, fostering a welcoming community for Chinese students and scholars, providing guidance on internal and external resources to support CUCSSA programming, and serving as an event manager for graduate student group events.
(25%) (2) International Recruitment and Outreach – Oversee the development and implementation of strategies for the recruitment of international students. Plans visits and presentations with colleges and universities to students located abroad. Collaborate with the Columbia Global Centers (in particular the Columbia Global Center in Beijing) to determine programming opportunities, and work in partnership with the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) to organize orientation and on-boarding events. Coordinates dual admission process with partner institutions as well as other educational institutions globally. Collaborates with staff and outside agencies in resolving complex prospective student issues relating to admission and all pre-arrival issues. Establishes cooperative and collaborative relationships with Study Abroad Agencies, Education USA advisors, and other organizations.
(10%) (3) Graduate Student Affairs Administration – Assist with graduate student affairs administration at the School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and other Columbia schools, including but not limited to, developing and implementing programming for a diverse graduate student population, assisting with Orientation, Class Day and graduation programming logistics.
(10%) (4) Reporting and Analysis – Prepare monthly reports and updates on CUCSSA programming and outreach efforts.
(5%) (5) Perform other duties as assigned.
