Assistant Director of Federal Compliance

Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Federal Compliance in the Office of Financial Aid oversees all aspects of federal compliance required for processing Title IV federal student aid, including federal verifications, resolution of C-codes, and timely return of Title IV funds. The individual is a subject matter expert for all aspects of financial aid, with a focus on compliance, Title IV funding, and packaging. The individual is responsible for supporting and administering all aspects of student financial aid programs and services and will provide financial counseling to students. The individual will also work with the Student Information Systems (PeopleSoft/Oracle), and companion systems that support the University with a focus on financial aid management, scholarships, and verification (Document imaging, CampusLogic/StudentForms, Scholarship Manager, NSLDS, COD, and other locally developed and commercial software tools, etc.). The successful candidate must also possess a thorough understanding of financial aid and be able to think independently and make autonomous decisions. The Assistant Director of Federal Compliance reports to the Associate Director. The individual in this position will directly supervise three Financial Aid Advisors and manage the verification team.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Manage all aspects of federal compliance, including federal verifications, resolution of C-Codes, and timely return of Title IV funds.
  • Gather necessary documents during annual compliance audit, or for a federal program review.
  • Perform needs analysis and package all forms of financial aid in accordance with Federal, State, and institutional regulations and policies, including summer-based aid and aid for students abroad.
  • Manage verification team
    • Ensure accuracy of verification reviews
  • Supervise three SL-3, Financial Aid Advisors
  • Complete all checklist reports and other assigned packaging-related reviews so that prospective students and families receive financial aid award notices when they need them.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Study Abroad.
  • Represent the Office of Financial Aid at University events including Prospective Student Open Houses, Accepted Student Open Houses, Presidential Scholar Closer Look Days, SUNY Financial Aid Day, SUNY Night, and Orientation Resource Fairs.
  • Manually package all of the fall only, spring only, 1 dissertation credit, 2nd bachelor, SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress), Study abroad students, learning network students, and BA/MA students that are over 120 credits.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • A minimum of five years of experience processing federal verifications.
  • A minimum of one year of experience processing return of Title IV funds.
  • Experience must include a demonstration of attention to detail and strong communication skills
  • Experience with an integrated Student Information System for Higher Education
  • Applicants must address their ability to present to groups both in person and virtually on topics related to Financial Aid such as: how to complete the FAFSA, meeting the gap, reading a Financial Aid award letter, how to apply for financial aid.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to multi-task and manage priorities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
  • Applicants must address their ability to work with a diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Experience processing R2T4 calculations during the summer term assuming the summer term contains modules.
  • Experience reviewing and evaluating Degree Audits for progress and completion of academic degree programs and certificates
  • Experience in any of the following systems: PeopleSoft, COD, Ellucian/CampusLogic, NSLDS, Slate, FAA Access, and EAB
