Assistant Director of Facilities (2nd Shift)

Position Summary

In this Assistant Director of Facilities role, you will be responsible for supporting the Director of Facilities regarding all aspects of facility management, with a focus on event management. You will assist in overseeing two office buildings, off-campus leased space and employee spaces that are within UConn buildings on campus. Your responsibilities include supervision of part-time student employees and collaborating with internal Foundation departments, UConn departments, and service vendors for the coordination and set up of events. You will work closely with the Director of Facilities in booking Foundation spaces for meetings and events, will take the lead on event setup/breakdown, and will be on-site for after hours and weekend events to ensure that any issues that arise will be promptly addressed.

***Please note that this is a 2nd shift position, working Tuesday through Saturday to be present for evening and weekend events. Hours are approximately 2pm to 10:30pm, but may have some flexibility depending on event needs***

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supports the Director of Facilities with the financial management and operation of two office buildings, off-campus leased space, and employee spaces that are within UConn buildings on campus. This includes physical security, custodial, emergency response, MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) systems, HVAC, utilities, mail service, waste/recycling, telecommunication, signage, parking, service vendor, and office relocation or renovation.
  • Collaborates with internal staff and UConn departments to oversee physical space for events up to 400 guests including reservations, catering needs, room setup, and coordination of AV needs.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and manages students for Alumni Center event operations.
  • Manages schedule for all conference and event spaces. Communicates effectively and timely with potential guests to verify reservation information. Identify additional needs regarding space planning and utilization. Activate necessary trades to inspect and/or provide information regarding set-up electrical loads for guest equipment.
  • Identifies labor set-up for large scale events. Assists the Lead Custodian in event set-up and break down.
  • Serves as on-site liaison to the Division of Athletics for Sports Museum related event issues.
  • Identifies and coordinates additional staffing schedules as appropriate for events. Provides staffing support for selected VIP events held in Foundation buildings including events where alcohol is served.
  • Fills in for the Director of Facilities in their absence.
  • Participates in and supports internal committees as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability and willingness to meet the demands of the position which may exceed 40-hours and require weekend availability.
  • Must be able to travel to various locations including but not limited to office locations on and off campus, UConn facilities, off-campus storage sites, retail locations and the like.
  • Must have reliable personal transportation and a valid driver’s license issued from the state in which employee resides. Must possess a valid driver’s license issued from state in which employee resides. Employee must maintain at their expense, automobile liability insurance coverage in the minimum amount of $500,000 or a combination of umbrella and automobile liability insurance coverage of $500,000. A certificate of automobile insurance evidencing the limit, must be provided to the Foundation at hire and annually thereafter.
