Department/Organization: 216101 – Dean’s Office-Honors College

Normal Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm, possibly after hours as needed for events

Job Summary: The Academic Program Director is responsible for managing a specific academic program, project, or service to include planning, administration, evaluation and implementation. May recommend the establishment of policies and procedures. Acts as liaison with University departments to ensure coordination of effort and exchange of information.

Additional Department Summary: Assistant Director of External Scholarships and Fellowships The University of Alabama Honors College is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of External Scholarships and Fellowships. The Office of External Scholarships and Fellowships (OESF) administers and/or supports UA’s nomination processes for nationally competitive awards like Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright, Boren, Churchill, Truman, and Goldwater. The ideal candidate possesses a professional demeanor with experience in and/or knowledge of nationally competitive awards.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience; or Master’s degree and one (1) year of experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about student development while possessing superior writing, professional communication, and organizational skills; should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse campus-wide team of fellowship representatives and sponsors; must have completed a master’s degree; has experience with student mentoring, competitive funding, and/or merit awards in the context of higher education; Can work with or quickly learn the following software programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Qualtrics, Canva, Slate, and SARS; Has experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.

Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of nationally competitive awards such as Rhodes, Marshall, Goldwater, etc.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience with study, teaching, and/or travel abroad. Past experience with or knowledge of nationally-competitive awards. Technical skills (e.g. data management, familiarity with student information systems and learning management systems). Ability to build and maintain social media platforms. Prior experience with grant or proposal writing and/or review
