Job Duties The Assistant Director of Compliance will report to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and will assist and oversee various aspects within the ECU Athletics compliance department. This individual will help to ensure all 18 varsity sports are in compliance with NCAA, AAC, and ECU regulations, with a primary focus on monitoring of recruiting activities. This position will have direct oversight of processes in Bylaws 12 – Amateurism, 13 – Recruiting, and 17 – Playing & Practice Seasons, and serve as a liaison to departmental staff.
Nights, weekends, holidays, and travel may be required in the performance of duties.
Reporting to the Senior Associate AD for Compliance, the individual serving in this position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
· Oversight of recruiting monitoring systems and processes;
· Oversight of official/unofficial visit review and approval;
· Coordinate monitoring of all recruiting reconciliation documents;
· Assist with Individual Associated with a Prospect (IAWP) review and monitoring;
· Assist with camp/clinic review and approval;
· Oversight of recruiting/scouting service approval; and
· Oversight of complimentary tickets.
· Monitor and approve team schedules;
· Review and approve time management plans and declaration of playing season;
· Review and approve countable athletically related activities (CARA) and required athletically related activities (RARA); and
· Monitor student-athlete outside competition activities.
· Provides research and interpretation responses;
· Prepare and present NCAA, AAC, and ECU rules education to coaches, staff, student-athletes, and other groups when necessary;
· Assist in the required recruiting education for coaching staff to certify for off-campus recruiting;
· Formulate and update policies/forms when legislation changes;
· Assist with new staff compliance orientation programming; and
· Serve on the NIL Taskforce.
· Oversight of student-athlete non-NIL promotional activities review and approval;
· Oversight of student-athlete employment review;
· Research and prepare NCAA and conference waivers at the direction of the Senior Associate AD for Compliance;
· Investigate and submit violations at the direction of the Senior Associate AD for Compliance; and
· Oversight of autograph and donation requests from a compliance perspective.
Build quality relationships and work collaboratively and professionally with all 18 sport programs and other athletic department staff including, but not limited to: Pirate Club, Marketing, Operations, Academics, Life Skills, Leadership Team, Human Resources, etc.;
– Work collaboratively with the Ticket Office when monitoring prospect, student-athlete and coaches complimentary tickets.
– Serve as a liaison to the Business Office regarding recruiting reconciliation matters;
– Serve as the department’s liaison for compliance software systems; and
– Serve as a liaison to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Technology proficiency including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and database systems.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation N/A
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Previous experience working in an Athletic Department Compliance Office is preferred.
  • Experience using NCAA apps and other compliance systems.
  • Master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high ethical standards and integrity.
  • Demonstrated experience to manage and oversee confidential information.
