JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Campus Recreation is looking for an experienced and dynamic leader to join our team as the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation for Reservations, Memberships and Outreach. Campus Recreation is a department within the division of Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Outdoor Adventure, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports. Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day leadership and management of all Campus Recreation reservations/rentals, general membership operations including the use of Innosoft Fusion, and department outreach. Specific responsibilities include facility scheduling, staff supervision, student development, coordinating department outreach, and assisting with budget management. The position provides direct supervision to one full-time coordinator.

Education and Experience:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher and/or 4 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills to select, supervise, motivate, train, and evaluate part time and full-time employees relative to work performance, crisis management, and peer relationships is required.

  • Understanding of budgeting principles and the ability to manage facility budgets and prioritize use of funds is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in educational administration, recreation or sport management, physical education, or a related field

  • Four years full-time experience within collegiate recreation

  • Experience with facility scheduling or membership

  • Knowledge of scheduling or membership software systems such as Fusion and/or 25Live

This position requires independent work on complex assignments, while reviewing progress and updating the Associate Director as appropriate. Knowledge of student development principles and ability to provide student development opportunities is expected. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (oral and written) skills are essential. Candidate must be able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and good judgment are vital requirements. The successful candidate will have the willingness to lead and work in a team-based environment as well as an eagerness to support and engage with all departmental initiatives and efforts as well as Student Affairs. The ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees and participants is essential.

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
