The University of Pittsburgh Office of Residence Life is seeking a qualified Assistant Director for Curriculum & Leadership. The leadership and responsibility of this role is essential to providing a high-quality residential experience. This position is responsible for the creation, implementation, and maintenance of the University of Pittsburgh’s Residential Curriculum. A successful candidate has extensive knowledge of a curricular approach and its connection to student development, engagement, and learning.

This individual is tasked with training both student and professional staff on the educational foundation of the curricular approach through the operational pieces of executing the curriculum. Acts as the primary advisor to the University of Pittsburgh’s Residential Student Association and provides leadership to all hall councils and advisors within the residence halls. This position also serves as a liaison to the National Residence Hall Honorary. Oversees budgetary responsibilities for overall residential engagement. As a principal advisor, provides support to the Residential Student Association in the use of their budgets. Provides guidance to hall council advisors in the usage of hall council budgets and spending. Directly supervises Area Coordinator(s), co-supervise support staff, and indirectly supervise 3-4 Resident Directors. Directly supervise the student leader team responsible for large scale programming.

This team is made up of Resident Assistants seated in a leadership capacity within the Office of Residence Life. The student leaders for large scale programming work on all hall engagement opportunities and departmental support and advocacy. In this supervisory capacity, the Assistant Directors provides professional development, mentorship, and supervision directly to student staff. In partnership with Director, manage departmental Marketing efforts and collaborate with messaging and media channels. Coordinate with central staff on procurement, development and management of Residence Life specific technology and platforms. Serve in Residence Life Central Staff on-call – supporting live-in professionals in their execution of on-campus duty.

 

Requirements for this position include a Master’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in Residence Life. A Master’s Degree in Student Development, Higher Education Administration, Counseling or a related field is preferred. Knowledge of and experience with a curricular approach to Residential Engagement is required. Supervisory experience of professional staff members as well as theoretical understandings of student, staff, and community development are required. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills, an ability to work collaboratively in achieving the goals of Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs.
