The Master of Science in Analytics (MScA) program is a graduate program within the Data Science Institute at The University of Chicago. The purpose of the MScA program is to train and educate students in aspects of Data Science and Analytics that are critical for positions in industry. Job Summary
 

The Assistant Director is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of industry partnerships for the Master of Science in Analytics (MScA) program. Develops strategies to enhance existing partnerships and build new partnerships. Works collaboratively to facilitate relationships with relevant employers and MScA capstone project sponsors. Develops relationships and collaborates with the Data Science Institute team, University offices, and other similar programs within the Physical Sciences Division to continue to enhance industry partnerships and create additional opportunities for MScA students. This position is eligible for a partially remote work schedule and is based in the downtown Chicago NBC Tower campus.

Responsibilities

Industry Partnerships

  • Leads the development, establishment, and maintenance of industry partner relationships, for the MScA program.
  • Secures and fosters industry participation for industry panels, capstone sponsorship, and participation in quarterly MScA capstone showcases.
  • Attends association, conference and/ or events for professional organizations to cultivate new and continued corporate partnerships with the MScA program.
  • Manages all aspects of on-campus and virtual recruiting.
  • Builds and maintains a network of potential employers and alumni to connect students with that can provide opportunities for mentoring, internships and/or jobs.

University Partnerships

  • As appropriate, identify mutually beneficial collaborative opportunities to industry partners for deeper engagement with the Data Science Institute, Physical Sciences Division, and the University as a whole.
  • Collaborates with MScA Career Services. 

Event Planning

  • Plans, designs, and executes specific industry related workshops and employer site visits.
  • Manages event details for visiting employer partners including communication, venues, presenters, travel arrangements, materials, refreshments, and technology ensuring that all are arranged and completed in an appropriate and timely manner.

Data Management

  • Creates, manages, and maintains efficient methods to track employer data, quantify employer engagement, and report on outcomes.
  • Maintains knowledge of job market trends and hiring practices in a range of fields.

Capstone Projects

  • Owns the relationship and coordinates communication between capstone teams and industry partners and serves as primary contact for all existing, past, and future capstone company relationships.
  • Establishes clear industry partner check in points throughout the capstone project.
  • Ensures the capstone research process is a productive experience for students and industry partners.
  • Develops process for annual reporting on capstone projects and outcomes for both internal and external audiences.
  • Supports planning and execution of Capstone Showcases.

Other

  • Educates employers about the University, students, and available recruiting services. Assists employers in developing effective recruiting strategies, setting goals and utilizing University services.
  • Identifies opportunities to increase the visibility of new companies and niche industries to job-seeking students. Identifies and supports the recruitment of employers and corporate representatives for career events. Assists in planning and managing event logistics.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.


Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Experience with learning platforms and technologies (Canvas, Symplicity, Zoom, Salesforce, SurveyMonkey, Microsoft Excel, Box, EventBrite).

Preferred Competencies

  • Ability to interact successfully with diverse constituencies including the ability to resolve problems with a high degree of discretion, diplomacy, and tact.
  • The ability to shift responsibilities as needed based on departmental needs.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proven ability to interface with and engage senior level clients.
  • Ensures program and operational excellence and optimization.
  • Maintain optimistic outlook, display confidence, and creatively marshal resources to achieve results amidst difficult circumstances. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate to a diverse audience including students, faculty, industry partners and staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills and constant attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.

Working Conditions

  • This position is eligible for a partially remote work schedule.
  • This position requires occasional work on evenings and weekends.
