Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Development for the Sciences and the Dean of the College of Public Health, the Assistant Dean for Development and Alumni Relations for the College of Public Health helps to plan, implement, and direct a proactive gifts program for the college.  The Assistant Dean will create and drive the strategy as well as lead and manage the staff and operations for fundraising and alumni relations for the college. Additionally, the Assistant Dean will be directly responsible for cultivating and managing relationships with current and prospective donors, including identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding those with capacity for gifts of $100,000 and higher. The Assistant Dean will also be leading the college’s new campaign focused on the new Paley building, scholarships for students, and named opportunities for faculty.

This individual will work closely with Institutional Advancement central operations to leverage the resources available to increase the dollars and donor base for the college. Serving as a liaison between both, this individual will align college-based priorities with those of institutional leadership. The Assistant Dean will serve on the Dean’s administrative leadership team and will create and implement strategies designed to support the funding of the dean’s priorities. The individual will collaborate with senior staff and faculty in the college as well as other colleagues throughout Temple University.

This person must be a highly energetic, driven, organized, intellectually curious, and an enthusiastic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and facilitating meaningful gifting opportunities and partnerships.  To be successful, the individual must work collaboratively and strategically, demonstrate good judgement and professionalism, and evidence of a strong knowledge and use of principles, ethics and best practices for advancing a culture of giving.

Essential Functions: Strategize and select alumni for one-to-one meetings with Dean to promote the college and fundraise; Develop and manage a high-performing development program with measurable, aggressive, and attainable fundraising and programmatic goals in support of established priorities; Demonstrate the ability to be a successful advancement professional in a complex, sophisticated institutional advancement operation; Manage a portfolio of 75-100 major and principal gift prospects, with the goal of cultivating, soliciting, closing and stewarding leadership level commitments of $100,000 or more; Effectively articulate and persuasively promote the mission and vision of the College of Public Health and Temple University in the context of securing private support from its various constituencies; Manage the campaign, including partnering with marketing in the development of print and online materials, identification and implementation of fundraising event opportunities, managing naming opportunities with central service operations; Leverage resources available both centrally and within the college to engage prospective or current donors most effectively, including other frontline fundraising staff and faculty, the central service operations of regional giving, annual giving, gift planning, corporate and foundation relations, prospect research, data analytics, gift processing and records and alumni relations; Advise the dean and institutional advancement leadership on all matters related to development activities within the College of Public Health; Serve as the administrative liaison to the College of Public Health’s Board of Visitors; Maintain a full commitment to the success of Temple and the College of Public Health’s mission and vision and high standards of achievement are expected in this position; Cultivate, recruit, and train fundraising volunteers and committees in support of the college’s priorities and special projects; Meet or exceed annual goals as defined each year in the Performance Development Program; Responsible for soliciting and closing major and annual gifts; Making face-to face visits and significant gift conversations with prospects/donors, executing actions/contact and recording all visits and contracts in appropriate systems; Possess strong written, presentation, verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills; Maintain a sincere appreciation for people and how they are each uniquely motivated; Demonstrate initiative and ability to work in a timely manner with multiple deadlines and priorities; Experience in employee development and performance management preferred; Demonstrate ability to relate well to individuals from diverse backgrounds; Ability and willingness to travel and work evening and weekend hours required; Computer literacy with knowledge of Banner or similar donor management software; Supervises team of 2-3, may supervise student workers; Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and at least five to seven years of progressively responsible higher/education fundraising experience with a proven track record of closing six to seven figure gifts. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Required Skills & Abilities:
*Excellent interpersonal skills are required with the ability to interact with a diverse group of constituents both inside and outside the university. 
*Knowledge of planned giving techniques and the programs available to implement such gifts.
*Entrepreneurial skills in identifying donors, cultivating meaningful relationships, and facilitating gifts.
*Demonstrated creativity and strategic thinking with the ability to take initiative and the willingness to learn. 
*Ability to make policy decisions when necessary, multi-task, set priorities, adapt to changes and meet deadlines.
*Ability to understand and work with budgetary procedures and policies.
*Willingness and ability to travel and work evening and weekend hours.

This position is temporarily assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
