The Opportunity: We are seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Athletics Director, Sports Nutrition whose academic excellence, professional qualities, and experience demonstrate leadership in all areas of sports nutrition.

Summary of essential job functions:

  • Lead a diverse team of sports dietitians, ensuring that the sports nutrition department provides best-in-class service and care for varsity student-athletes through individual and group/team nutrition counseling and education, optimizing their performance across various aspects to enhance performance.
  • Provide supervisory oversight which includes, but is not limited to, helping to define/refine the roles and responsibilities of sports dietitians.
  • Evaluate and recommend the purchasing and distribution of dietary/nutritional supplements while maintaining standards that are consistent with NCAA regulations, DAPER policies and United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) regulations.
  • Manage budget for purchasing and distribution of compliant nutritional supplements and snacks.
  • Advise administrators on contracts and/or sponsorship opportunities that are specific to dietary/nutritional products and services.
  • Educate varsity student-athletes on optimal nutrition for training, competition, recovery, weight management, hydration, immunity, disordered eating, travel, and supplementation, translating the latest scientific evidence into practical recommendations.
  • Develop and deliver nutrition education presentations on various topics related to nutrition for optimal performance.
  • Partner with Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE) to ensure adequate varsity student-athlete nutrition provision.
  • Coordinate nutritional education as a member of multidisciplinary sports medicine/sports science teams.
  • Develop and oversee sports nutrition policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate food preparation and distribution from athletics nutrition stations.
  • Provide coaches with guidance and recommendations on team meals, snacks and other general nutritional information.
  • Serve as a food and nutrition resource for coaches and other student-athlete performance team colleagues.
  • Track and document outcomes of nutrition services.
  • Serve as a liaison with University community programs for conditions such as disordered eating.
  • Demonstrate and maintain detailed knowledge on NCAA, Conference, University, and department rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrate and maintain a thorough knowledge on the rules and regulations of the NCAA and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) regarding banned drugs and restricted substances.
  • Maintain professional competency and skills required for professional practice.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Associate Athletics Director, Applied Performance.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in nutrition, exercise science or related field.
  • Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD).
  • Registered Dietitian with active status from the American Dietetic Association’s (ADA) Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in nutrition counseling with collegiate, Olympic, or professional athletes.

DAPER’s Integrity
This position, along with all DAPER coaches and staff, is responsible for the integrity of Stanford’s intercollegiate athletics program and for the reputation of Stanford University. This position is responsible for insuring that his/her involvement with Athletics Department activities maintains the integrity of the University’s reputation and does not negatively impact the relationship between the University and its faculty, staff, students and alumni. Additionally, this position must comply with University policies and procedures, NCAA and the Conference rules and regulations.
Pay Range:
The expected pay range for this position is $115,000-125,000 per annum.
