Assistant/Associate Professor – Open Department, Center for Pediatric Population Health; UTHealth School of Public Health/UTHealth School of Public Health-Dallas

UTHealth Houston School of Public Health (https://sph.uth.edu/ ) invites applications to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level with expertise in Injury and Violence Prevention, with particular emphasis on the pediatric population.  The successful candidate may be located in Houston or Dallas, based on fit and applicant preference.  

An eligible candidate may be a public health researcher or clinician-scientist with training and expertise in one of the following areas related to Injury and Violence Prevention in the pediatric population:

  • Epidemiology

  • Health disparities

  • Dissemination and implementation science

  • Addressing psychosocial, behavioral, and environmental risk and protective factors

Depending on qualifications, the candidate will have a primary appointment in one of the four departments of the School of Public Health (Epidemiology, Human Genetics, & Environmental Sciences, Health Promotion & Behavioral Sciences, Management, Policy & Community Health, or Biostatistics & Data Science) with a joint appointment in the Department of Pediatrics, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

The successful applicant will work within the Center for Pediatric Population in the UTHealth School of Public Health (https://sph.uth.edu/research/centers/cpph/) . The School of Public Health has six campuses across Texas. Clinician scientists will be geographically located in Houston with clinical affiliations at the Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.

 

Position Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Provide educational leadership, including classroom teaching and mentoring to graduate and/or medical students.

  • Have a track record of research publications commensurate with academic rank and demonstrated potential for securing external funding.

  • Conduct clinical duties consistent with the expertise of clinician-scientist applicants within the affiliated hospitals and clinics at UTHealth Houston.

  • Develop and implement research related to community and clinical health initiatives in pediatric populations, including injury and disease prevention, acute care, chronic illness management, and health risk behaviors during adolescence and the transition to adulthood.

  • Contribute protocols and outcome metrics to community health and clinical sites and work collaboratively with UTHealth SPH and Department of Pediatrics colleagues to submit research proposals for external funding.

    Qualifications:

     

     

    A successful applicant for this position must have a Ph.D. or Dr.PH. in public health, epidemiology, economics, sociology, anthropology or a related field; or an M.D. with an accompanying public health graduate degree and 5+ years of research experience in public health or related areas.
