Position HighlightsThe College of Engineering is accepting applications for one Career Track Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice who will have the opportunity to work with a team of engineering instructors and teach undergraduate engineering and related courses. The general course load is six 3-unit courses per academic year with additional duties such as curriculum development and service over the summer.The UA College of Engineering (ENGR) has eight academic departments and offers 17 undergraduate degrees, including two programs jointly offered in partnership with other colleges.The incumbent will contribute to any or all of the following:
- Teach up to two sections of ENGR 102B Introduction to Engineering Design (a two-unit course for approximately 48 first-year engineering students) during the fall and spring semesters.
- Teach AME 220 (Introduction to Aerospace Engineering) or related courses in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department.
- Teach courses in the Defense Civilian Training Corps Program (DCTC 401 and 402)) and/or ENGR 498 Engineering Design Program.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesENGR 102B Introduction to Engineering DesignRun all aspects of one section of ENGR 102B during a semester, including:
- Development of a syllabus that establishes key dates for design projects, homework assignments, and exams;
delivery of lectures. * Construction of homework assignments and exams; and
- Determination and assignment of course grades.
- Faithfully attend regularly scheduled meetings of the ENGR 102B instructor team.
Defense Civilian Training Corps (DCTC)
- Attend strategy meetings with DCTC team.
- Teach courses such as DCTC 401 and 402.
ENGR 498 (Engineering Senior Design)
- Serve as a mentor to approximately five teams of interdisciplinary teams in the engineering senior capstone course.
Intro to Aerospace Engineering AME 220
- Create lectures and course materials for introduction to airplanes and space vehicles as aerospace systems.
- Explain Fundamentals that describe these systems. Elements of aerodynamics, airfoils and wings. Airplane performance, stability, and control. Aircraft and rocket propulsion. Fundamentals of orbital motion. Aspects of vehicle conceptual design.
- Development of a syllabus that establishes key dates for design projects, homework assignments, and exams;
delivery of lectures. * Construction of homework assignments and exams; and
- Determination and assignment of course grades.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of, and the ability to implement, the engineering design process, experiential learning, generally engineering education, and student professional development.
- Ability to use basic statistics to analyze and present technical data.
- Familiarity with the knowledge and skills that characterize the various engineering disciplines.
- Knowledge of aerospace engineering. Additional flight experience is desired but not necessary.
- Adherence to the ethical standards common to the engineering profession.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams of trained professionals, working toward a common goal.
Minimum Qualifications
- Masterâs Degree with either a Masterâs Degree or Bachelorâs degree in a STEM Discipline and experience teaching engineering courses at a four-year college or university.
OR
- Bachelorâs degree in STEM discipline with 5 years of relevant post-baccalaureate experience and two yearsâ experience teaching engineering courses at a four-year college or university.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in teaching any of the following courses at the University of Arizona: ENGR 102 or ENGR 102B, ENGR 498.
- Experience at mentoring or teaching student teams at the undergraduate level.
- Proven experience in curriculum planning and delivery.
