Scope of Job The Department of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering (MAIE) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) seeks applicants for one or more faculty positions as part of a college wide cluster hire in the broad area of Materials Science and Engineering and Additive Manufacturing. Successful candidates are expected to start in the Fall 2023 semester. The program has ABET accreditation. The MAIE department has an enrollment of over 120 UG students and 50 master’s degree students. Successful candidates will contribute to one or more of the following centers and upcoming doctoral programs in the College of Engineering & Computer Science: the Center for Advanced Manufacturing Innovation and Cyber Systems (CAMICS) and the Center for Nanotechnology and the interdisciplinary PhD program in materials science and engineering. The positions are for tenure track assistant professors; however, exceptional candidates may be considered for credit toward time on tenure track or for appointment as associate professor.
Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
Candidates at the Assistant Professor level will be considered based on demonstrated potential to enhance the teaching, research capabilities of the MAIE department. Applicants must have demonstrated evidence of leadership, skill in interdisciplinary research and collaboration along with the potential to develop (or already developed) an outstanding research program and high-profile publications as well as a successful record of extramural funding.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications Applicants must also have a demonstrated ability (or a well-designed plan) to develop and maintain a funded research program and to lead multidisciplinary collaborative projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate having (or potential to) achieved excellence and balance in teaching, research and service, collaboration with faculty across disciplines and the ability to involve undergraduate students as well as graduate students in research activities.
Preferred Qualifications The highest consideration will be given to applicants who have expertise in areas of Materials Science and Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing.

Additional Information The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.
UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly the University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly the University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
