Assistant or Associate Professor in Education (STEM Emphasis)

Lake Superior State University is seeking a dynamic faculty member to join the School of Education, which is part of the novel College of Great Lakes Ecology and Education. The tenure track position in Teacher Education will have an emphasis on STEM education. The faculty member will teach courses and provide leadership in science teacher education at the elementary and secondary levels and contribute to collaborations focusing on place-based learning within the College. Courses will be at the undergraduate level and delivered in traditional and online formats. The faculty member will have a unique opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in the School of Natural Resources and the Center for Freshwater Research and Education to build and support place-based learning approaches. In addition, the faculty member is expected to contribute to assessment and accreditation activities, supervision of student teaching, advising, professional and scholarly activities, and university service. This position begins in August 2024. 

Qualified candidates will have elementary, middle, or high school teaching experience, a strong STEM background, and an interest in building place-based and project-based learning.

Required Qualifications

  • Ed.D., Ph.D. in Education; Curriculum and Instruction; or closely-related field (awarded by August 2024)
  • At least 18 graduate level credits in STEM education
  • Evidence of collaboration with a diverse group of faculty, students, and K-12 school personnel
  • Experience teaching STEM at the elementary, middle, or high school level
  • Ability to use a wide range of educational technologies in instruction

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching multiple modalities (e.g. in-person, online synchronous, asynchronous, hybrid)
  • Knowledge of state and national teacher licensure requirements
  • Credentials to supervise teacher candidates in clinical settings
  • Credentials to also support the special education program
  • Experience acquiring external funding for program growth and expansion, track record of prior research
