Position Details

The Department of Art and Design within the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Art and Design to begin August 2023.

This position requires the ability to teach all levels of Graphic Design including introductory to advanced level courses that include design fundamentals, typography, print design, production, trademark + branding, packaging design, user experience, user interface design, design thinking, web design and portfolio development. The teaching load is 12-semester hours (typically 3 four-credit courses) in a 15-week semester. As our faculty work very closely with students, the successful candidate will be required to maintain office hours to meet with students, serve as an academic adviser, contribute to the function and educational objectives of the program and department, provide service to the college, university, community, and the profession, and perform all other duties as assigned. The candidate is also required to engage in professional activity and scholarly development in the field.

The department seeks to hire an active and engaged faculty member who combines disciplinary expertise with excellence in teaching. Candidates should have an active record in the profession that demonstrates scholarly and professional activities that make a significant contribution and reflect a high standard of excellence in teaching, research, and pedagogy. The successful candidate will join a department of twelve full-time faculty members and five full-time instructional staff committed to excellence in teaching and fostering a strong research culture where traditional and emerging art and design processes and technologies are used across the disciplines in a diverse and collaborative environment.

A Master of Fine Arts (or other terminal degree) in Graphic Design and/or equivalent experience in the field is required along with teaching experience at the college or university level and proficiency in current industry software applications.

Preferred Qualifications: Professional Graphic Design experience. Knowledge of design history, theory, and contemporary issues in design. Relevant teaching experience in the theory and practice of human-centered design, design thinking, and design processes and systems.
