Assistant/Associate Professor in Social Studies Education

The Department of Curriculum Studies, College of Education, University of Saskatchewan invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level commencing January 1st to July 1st, 2025, with a focus on teacher education specifically in the area of Social Studies and in Curriculum Theory.

As a key member of an innovative and dynamic College, the successful candidate will leverage their experience to teach social studies methods at the undergraduate level and graduate courses in the areas of Social Studies and its diverse pathways. The ideal candidate will possess an earned PhD in a field related to Social Studies Education. Expertise in Curriculum Theory would be an asset.

Applicants must have relevant teaching experience at the early childhood to grade 12 level and/or post-secondary level (preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience at the early childhood to grade 12 levels). Responsibilities will include: (1) teaching undergraduate social studies methods courses and graduate courses in in related areas (2) maintain a research program, including seeking external funding to support research activities, and (3) advising graduate students. In addition, applicants will demonstrate the ability and expertise to work with community partners in Social Studies education. The candidate will demonstrate a social justice approach in their practice including investigating historical, sociological and cultural realities of Euro-centric viewpoints, Indigenous knowledge/perspectives and the nature of social studies, and the implications of these realities for teaching. In addition, all faculty are expected to conduct research, provide service and contribute to collegial processes in the College of Education.

The salary bands for this position are as follows:

Assistant to Associate Professor Scale: $107,323 to $148,939

This position includes a comprehensive benefits package which includes a dental, health, and extended vision care plan; pension plan, life insurance (compulsory and voluntary), sick leave, travel insurance, death benefits, an employee assistance program, a professional expense allowance, and a flexible health and wellness spending program.
