Description:

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Division of Gastroenterology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre invite applications for an Academic Gastroenterologist position. This full-time appointment will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto as either a Clinician Investigator (CI) or Clinician in Quality and Innovation (CQI) at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Expected start date is July 1, 2025, or as mutually agreed.

The successful candidate will join a 7-member Division of Gastroenterology team and will deliver and foster excellence in academic gastroenterology. The position is expected to be 50% clinical (divided equally between general GI and inflammatory bowel disease) and 50% clinical investigation/quality innovation and administrative duties. Clinical expertise in complex gastrointestinal conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, and proficiency in upper and lower endoscopy are required.

The Division provides inpatient consultation and ambulatory care including gastrointestinal endoscopy. Responsibilities include excellent clinical care of in-patients and out-patients, primary care liaison, trainee supervision in clinical care setting, formal teaching, and scholarly work.

Candidates must hold an MD degree, have/be eligible for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Gastroenterology and have or be eligible for Ontario medical licensure. Advanced training in investigation/quality improvement and Inflammatory Bowel Disease is required.

Estimated compensation ranges from $300,000-$350,000 based on academic rank, qualifications and experience. The position includes eligibility for Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association membership, through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will also be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
