Job Description Summary:

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a full-time Teaching Professor (open rank) position beginning July 1, 2025. The rank will be consistent with demonstrated experience. The successful candidate will primarily teach one to three sections of lecture or laboratory courses per semester. The courses could be General Chemistry; Organic Chemistry; General, Organic and Biological Chemistry; or upper-level elective as well as the corresponding laboratory courses. Depending on the candidate’s expertise, demonstrated teaching effectiveness, and departmental needs, there may also be opportunities to teach other introductory chemistry courses in the Department’s Curriculum.

Qualifications

Required:

1. A Ph.D. in chemistry is required by the start of appointment.

2. Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness (preferably at the collegiate level).

3. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

4. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills

5. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of students.

6. Experience supervising laboratory teaching assistants.

Preferred:

1. Prior teaching experience in General Chemistry (college level).

2. Prior teaching experience in Organic Chemistry (college level).

3. Prior teaching experience in General, Organic and Biological Chemistry (college level).
