Challenge: Making quantum computing a reality.
Change: Develop scalable quantum computing engines that harness millions of qubits.
Impact: Solving complex computational problems that no classical computer can ever solve in practical time.
Job description
Quantum computing will enable breakthroughs in societal issues ranging from climate change to developing new materials and drugs at the molecular level, but current quantum computing engines are too small and need to be scaled up for such applications. Working at the forefront of research on scalable quantum computing engines at TU Delft, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team covering the fabrication and operation of qubits, electronic (cryo-CMOS) circuit design, micro-architecture, programming models, compilers, and simulator platforms.
We have various openings for assistant and associate professors. Based on your vision and interests, you may focus on any of the wide range of our research roadmap’s topics. To attract funding for your research, you’ll build your network of industrial and public partners. You’ll also be teaching Bachelor and Master students in quantum and non-quantum computing and supervising Master and PhD students. In addition, you’ll play an active role in our faculty’s committees and the scientific community.
At the Quantum & Computer Engineering department, you will join our 100-strong cohesive team of highly motivated professors and students. Ours is a supportive, internationally diverse and inclusive environment, where you’ll find an open, welcoming atmosphere. Being used to growing talent, we’ll give you all the training and coaching you need to evolve in your position. You’ll be working closely with your colleagues and the researchers of our partner QuTech . Our common drive? To invent, design, prototype and demonstrate the potential of disruptive computing accelerators using the unique features of emerging devices, such as qubits, memristors, spintronics and graphene

Department
Faculty Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three disciplines – electrical engineering, mathematics and computer science. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make future-proof. We are also working on a world in which humans and computers reinforce each other. We are mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. There is plenty of room here for ground-breaking research. We educate innovative engineers and have excellent labs and facilities that underline our strong international position. In total, more than 1,100 employees and 4,000 students work and study in this innovative environment.
