Job Overview

The School of Education in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services at the University of Cincinnati (UC) invites applications for a full-time position as an Assistant Professor-tenure track (final rank commensurate with credentials) with primary responsibilities in the Higher Education program. The position’s start date will be August 15, 2023. The appointment will serve in our M.A., Ed.D, and Ph.D. programs with concentrations in higher education.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain an active research agenda in one’s area(s) of expertise; actively apply for and secure external and internal funding.
  • Engage in research appropriate for the assistant/advanced assistant rank.
  • Teach face-to-face and/or online courses both at the doctoral and master’s levels.
  • Advise master’s and doctoral students and serve on masters/doctoral committees.
  • Collaborate with other UC divisions and colleges to create graduate assistantships, internship, and research opportunities for current and prospective students.
  • Participate in other intellectual/scholarly activities in the area of higher education; establish and maintain profession involvement in professional associations (e.g., AERA ASHE, ACPA, AACRAO, NACAC, NASPA, etc.).
  • We welcome candidates from a variety of research interests pertaining to higher education, including but not limited to equity, inclusion, social justice, access, affordability, college/career readiness, race, law, policy, and critical theory.  Successful candidates will work collaboratively with other academic programs, community agencies, and professional associations.

Minimum Requirements

All of the following prior to effective date of appointment:

  • An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Higher Education or a closely related field.
  • At least one academic research presentation.
  • One submitted peer-reviewed publications, or submission of a grant proposal.
  • At least one academic year of experience in all of the following: student mentoring and advising in an academic setting; service on committees, advising and mentoring, or similar work with students from historically underserved backgrounds; teaching experience focused on higher education at the graduate level in-person or online.
  • At least one of the following in the K-12/K-16 context- educational leadership theory, critical race theory, education policy analysis, demonstrated through a manuscript, project, presentation, expressed in the applicant’s cover letter, etc.
  • At least two (2) years of paraprofessional or one year of full-time professional experience in enrollment management & admissions, student affairs, or a closely related field.
