We are currently seeking a proactive

Assistant Accountant

to join our esteemed

Financial Planning and Performance

team. As an Assistant Accountant, you will provide comprehensive support to the Finance Business Partner and be responsible for the ongoing development, compilation and presentation of the University’s financial management reports, which are key documents in the financial management cycle. This position also provides financial services to business areas and faculties throughout the University, through offering support and advice to assist with their financial management and business development responsibility.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide support to the Finance Business Partner, School and Faculty Business Managers.
  • Produce, examine and interpret financial reports with high attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Support the budgeting and estimation activities across the University.
  • Providing accurate and timely month-end close through preparing journals to align with external reporting requirements and Australian Accounting Standards (ASSB).
  • Provide general assistance and support to Accountants on financial management, statutory and treasury activities.
  • Prepare and review financial acquittals and related reports in line with requirements of funding bodies, Financial Management Principals and Curtin University’s accounting manual.

Key Requirements:

  • Completion of a relevant degree in Accounting, Finance, and/or related field, alongside demonstrated experience working in accounting or financial services.
  • Outstanding proficiency in customer service, with the ability to convey complex financial terminology in a clear, concise and understandable manner to a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Actively working towards full membership of an internationally recognised accounting body e.g. ICAA or CPA.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage competing priorities.

As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
