Asbestos Consultant- Parental Leave Cover

Estates Services is responsible for the management and strategic direction of Oxford University’s functional and commercial estate within Oxfordshire. This comprises some 450 buildings and the infrastructure associated with them.

The Compliance team is responsible for overseeing health and safety, and environmental matters across Estates Services activities. The Asbestos Consultant (parental leave cover) is an important role within the Compliance team and will be responsible for supporting the delivery of effective and compliant asbestos management across the Estate.

About the Role

You will work within the Compliance Team in Estates Services, reporting to the Compliance Officer for Asbestos and Safety Critical Systems. You will be responsible for updating and maintaining the asbestos risk register following surveys and removal work, managing annual condition monitoring and re-inspection surveys, and providing specialist advice to Estates staff and the wider University on matters regarding asbestos management.

About You

You will have experience in asbestos management with a relevant background in asbestos consultancy, or otherwise helping an organisation meet its obligations under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. This should include experience working with asbestos registers and an understanding of how an asbestos register, or survey, should be used to guide risk assessment. Experience of asbestos removal and working with licensed contractors would also be beneficial.

Excellent written communication skills are key, along with the ability to produce high quality reports, often for non-specialist audiences.

First class inter-personal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels with tact, diplomacy and openness is also essential to your success.

You will also have a proven ability to plan and prioritise workload, and be comfortable contributing as part of a mixed discipline team.
