We are seeking a creative, excellent and innovative early career researcher to be part of a newly established Australian Research Council (ARC) Industrial Transformation Training Centre (ITTC) for Future Crops Development.

The ARC ITTC for Future Crops Development is a collaboration between the University of Adelaide and the Australian National University, as well as 19 industry partners, consisting of government research agencies, the Australian grains sector’s key stakeholders and international research organisations. The Training Centre aims to build new capabilities for agriculture and global food security through socially responsible genetic and field technologies for future crops.

The School of Agriculture, Food & Wine is one of several Schools in the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology, and represents a world-class concentration of scientific research, education and product conferring capability, with infrastructure and resources at the Waite Campus of the University of Adelaide. The successful candidate will enjoy the opportunity to liaise closely with research and industry experts co-located on campus.

The successful candidate will be undertaking innovative research into next generation biotechnology pipelines for the agricultural industry. They will be responsible for the training of staff, students and the ITTC’s industry partners in plant transformation technologies, such as the generation of genetically modified and genome edited plants. The successful candidate will contribute to supervision of PhD students on projects involving biotechnology and trait analysis.

The role will offer opportunities for the candidate to travel overseas to our international collaborators to exchange ideas and to learn new techniques for bringing back to Australia.

To be successful you will need:

  • PhD in Plant Sciences or Molecular Biosciences, or working towards a PhD in Plant Sciences, with relevant additional experience/training
  • Demonstrated experience in projects involving CRISPR-mediated gene editing and/or the generation of GMO crops or plants.
  • Excellent written communication skills and demonstrated ability to write quality peer-reviewed publications and industry reports
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and time management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity, diversion and inclusion
