Course Description:

The application of the educational foundation disciplines to the study of schooling and its social contexts; the roles of teachers in reproducing and challenging social inequalities; personal exploration of the social influences on identity.

There will be an online orientation session (1.5 hours) and an in-person planning session (4.5 hours) for up to six hours of total time in the month of June. These two sessions enable us to discuss shared programmatic priorities and policies and enable colleagues teaching the same sections to harmonize their syllabi

Course Schedule:

Mardi Tuesday 14:30-17:30 – – Hybrid course with in-person sessions, alternating between face-to-face and remote learning.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in education; OCT certification (in good standing); Recent experience teaching in elementary schools in Ontario, providing school-level or systems-level leadership in Ontario schools; Evidence of applied knowledge of the current Ontario Curriculum, Ethical Standards and Standards of Practice outlined by the Ontario College of Teachers in systems of schooling.

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated advanced study, research, and professional learning on foundational topics that include (but are not limited to):

  • The role of schools in democratic societies.
  • The impacts of schooling on diverse human outcomes over the lifespan.
  • Schooling, oppression, marginalization and social justice; curriculum design as an enactment of social priorities.

The University may consider experience or qualifications equivalent to those set out above.
