Job Summary
The Faculty of Applied Science includes six Engineering Departments, the School of Architecture & Landscape Architecture, School of Nursing, and School of Community and Regional Planning, and the School of Engineering at UBC Okanagan. The Faculty of Applied Science is the one of the largest faculties at UBC with faculty and staff working at the Point Grey and Okanagan campus as well as offsite locations including health authorities. 
The APSC Indigenous Engagement Coordinator will support the Indigenous and Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) portfolio, in the Faculty of Applied Science at the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, EDI and Indigeneity, this role will be responsible developing, implementing, and managing a range for programs and initiatives to support the strategic Indigenous Strategic Plan of the Faculty and University. This position is for a two year term period.
Organizational Status
This role reports directly to the Senior Manager, EDI and Indigeneity and will work closely with the Associate Dean, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. The EDI.I Coordinator will collaborate with and provide support to the various units within the Applied Science Dean’s Office, as well as staff and faculty in the departments, schools, and research centres. In addition, the role will collaborate with stakeholders both internal and external to the University to support EDI.I programs and initiatives.
Work Performed

Project Management
•    Under the direction of the Senior Manager, leads strategic projects, including services, award programs, and initiatives to support the goals of the EDI.I team in relation to the ISP implementation
•    Under the direction of the Senior Manager, develops and implements a certificate program in relation to the Indigenous Strategic Initiatives planning and funding
•    Analyzes projects throughout the project life cycle, anticipating and mitigating potential risks and providing advice on the resolutions of issues as they arise to ensure targets are met
•    Identifies resources, systems, policies and procedures required to implement projects/initiatives and increase engagement
•    Manages logistics of project administration including conducting and reviewing research, developing and refining procedures, defining goals and metrics, compiling reports and tracking progress and other key data and metrics
•    Participates in writing and editing grant/award applications to various funding agencies
•    Facilitates the development of Faculty-wide metrics, data collection, and interpretation methods to inform the Senior Manager and Associate Dean as to the current EDI.I environment and the impact of the strategic programs

Training and Engagement Support
•    Works closely with the Senior Manager and Associate Dean to create, deliver, and facilitate EDI.I training opportunities for faculty, staff and students in Applied Science
•    Responsible for developing and building the Indigenous training program for staff and the continual management of that program, collaborating with the Senior Manager and APSC HR team as required
•    Provides writing support for a variety of media, such as background information, speaking notes, internal articles and updates, web-based communications, fact sheets, and other writing projects as required
•    Works collaboratively with the EDI.I team to support the Faculty and other key stakeholders to develop strategic and collaborative relationships with key individuals, organizations and other community partners

Portfolio Administration
•    Responsible for managing and recording team budget and expenditures, including the monthly reconciliation of finances
•    Leads the day-to-day delivery and coordination of planned programs, services, and activities; this includes, coordinating venues, speakers, etc. 
•    Develops processes and systems to support programs and initiatives to ensure results, mitigate risks and foster operational efficiency 
•    Participates in the planning, recruitment and development of student staff to support the team and deliver programs
•    Performs other duties as required
 

Consequence of Error/Judgement
This role provides an integral support to the EDI.I team in the Faculty of Applied Science. The embedding of appropriate EDI.I culture is imperative to the strategic aims of the Faculty and University. Errors in judgment or an error of commission or omission may seriously impact the image and reputation of the Faculty, its departments and schools, and the University. Project/program management is integral to the role, delays may result in loss of opportunity, funding or stature.  
Supervision Received
Reports directly to the Senior Manager, EDI & Indigeneity. Works independently, under minimal supervision. Work is assigned within established priorities and reviewed in terms of effectiveness.  
Supervision Given
Assigns and monitors the work of student employees (Equity Ambassadors).
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience working with Indigenous communities and/or in the areas of accessibility, diversity, equity.
  • A Graduate degree in a relevant discipline is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a demonstrated ability of disseminating complex information to audiences with mixed levels of understanding.
  • Ability to connect and engage with marginalized communities based on credibility or gained from lived experiences
  • Comfortable public speaking with both small and large groups.
  • Experience managing difficult conversations and a proven ability to facilitate, mediate, and resolve conflict.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with a diversity of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating effectively a variety of partners and across various projects
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality with handling sensitives information/situations
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage programs/projects
  • Flexibility to attend programs, events, and conferences scheduled outside of standard university hours of operations, including evenings and weekends
  • Some off-campus travel may be required
