Precision in Progress: Explore Our Apprenticeship Opportunities

Raytheon ELCAN are currently accepting applications for the following apprenticeships:

Optics Technician: Lens and Prism Maker x 4

Apprentices will learn to manufacture high precision spherical, aspherical and plano optical components to specification.

Assembly Instrument Technician x 3

Apprentices will develop knowledge in assembling, adjusting, aligning, and testing precision opto-mechanical instruments in accordance with blueprint specifications.

General Machinist

General Machinist Apprentices will learn a variety of mechanical manufacturing processes, operating various conventional and CNC equipment.

• Ensuring that work accomplished is accurate in all relevant aspects.

• Demonstrating self-motivation; effective performance is driven from within rather than being conditional on pressure from external factors

• Work autonomously to troubleshoot job related problems

• To work shifts as deemed necessary

• Utilizing technical resources and applying them effectively

• Keeping up to date with the latest developments in new technologies to assess their possible application (and/or ensure their successful implementation) within the work place.

• Applying problem solving skills within the work place.

• Acquiring and demonstrating knowledge of health and safety procedures.

• Perform any other activities as required by management or program objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

• Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent

• Knowledge of the metric system would be an asset

• Strong well-rounded math skills

• Must have eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity

• Experience in handling of optical components would be an asset.

• Proven ability to solve technical problems and make sound decisions

• Highly motivated with a demonstrated positive attitude

• Willingness to learn and acquire knowledge/understanding through study, instruction or experience

• Exposure to computer software, MS Word, Excel and AutoCAD would be an asset
