This position utilizes applied research knowledge with a focused and specialized skillset to design and conduct experimental tests and procedures in the Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS); performs Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Focused-Ion Beam (FIB), and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) sample preparation and analysis; performs research in microCT; assists internal and external users with the planning, development, and execution of their research projects; assists with teaching, training, and overseeing user’s microscopy methods and how to operate CEMAS equipment; helps troubleshoot experiments and assists in sample preparation and interpretation; processes two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) data; creates 3D animations in support of research projects; participates in the development of Electron Microscopy sample preparation for new samples; organizes data and samples; assists in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for presentations at conferences and workshops; assists in writing project reports, articles, and other documents for publication.

Bachelor’s Level Degree

Desired: Master’s Level Degree

Experience:

Required: 1 year of applied research experience; ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge to the conduct of engineering research; knowledge of advancedcharacterization techniques in SEM, FIB, and TEM; proficiency in the maintenance and use of advanced materials processing techniques; experience with sample preparation of hard and soft materials; ability to multi-task
and prioritize among many research projects; excellent written and oral communication skills.

Desired: Experience in microCT; experience in 2D and 3D data processing; experience in an engineering training capacity.

Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $53,000 to $71,700
