This is a two-year position (with renewal possible) working on the National Geodetic Survey Modeling Grant titled: Developing a Fully Kinematic, Backwards-Compatible Reference Frame for the Continental United States of America and Canada . In close coordination with the senior personnel and other research team members, the Research Associate will provide their expertise in artificial intelligence and remote sensing. The objective will be to characterize Earth surface deformation patterns applying deep learning techniques to Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) scenes. Tasks will include development of efficient training datasets using synthetic data and a deep learning algorithm to obtain coherent iso-phase contours from InSAR.

50%    Development of a deep learning algorithm to obtain coherent iso-phase contours from InSAR

15% Development of training datasets using synthetic data

15% Incorporation of iso-phase contours to a combined GNSS-InSAR inverse algorithm

10% Publication of research results

10% Dissemination of research by presentation of results at national/international conferences

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with demonstrated prior experience in satellite remote sensing and/or deep learning. Proficiency in Python is essential for the latter. Excellent organizational and collaborative skills are required, and strong oral and written communication skills are expected. Expected to conduct independent, high-quality research; publish papers; and present work at national and international conferences.  4 years of relevant experience required.

Master’s or PhD preferred in relevant Science and Engineering fields (including but not limited to Earth Sciences, Physics, Astrophysics, Computer Science and Engineering, Geodesy) with demonstrated prior experience in satellite remote sensing and/or deep learning. 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.
