Description of Work Unit The Department: The Department of Geosciences has seventeen full time faculty. The department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees and currently has about 100 majors and 60 graduate students. In keeping with the mission of a Land Grant University, the program is known for its strength in field-based research, commitment to teaching, outreach to solve resource management problems, and basic research programs in sedimentology/stratigraphy, petrology/geochemistry, tectonics, hydrogeology/geomorphology, petroleum geology, economic geology, seismology/geophysics, and geodynamics.
Position Summary The Postdoc will conduct NSF-supported research in source and wave propagation seismology under the mentorship of P.I. Richard Aster. Research will encompass solid Earth seismology, cryoseismology, and volcano seismology.

Required Job Qualifications Ph.D. in Earth Science.
Specialization in seismology.
Demonstrated record of early-career research and publication productivity.
Preferred Job Qualifications Specialization in cryoseismology and/or volcano seismology.
Research experience with volcano or cryoseismic, sources and associated seismic wave propagation.
Antarctic research experience.

Essential Duties

Duty/Responsibility Seismological analysis of Antarctic cryosphere and volcano seismology incorporating theoretical and applied approaches, to discover new scientific results

Duty/Responsibility   Publication and presentation of scientific results in community peer-reviewed journals, and travel to and participation in relevant scientific meetings, to disseminate results to the seismological, cryosphere, and broader communities, and to the broader public.
