Job Summary: | The Dairy Cattle Center is part of the Integrated Dairy Facilities for the Department of Animal and Dairy Science at UW-Madison. This industry leading facility is located in the heart of the UW-Madison campus and is home to 84 lactating cows. This facility plays a critical role in supporting the teaching, research, and outreach missions of the university. The capacity for unique, individualized nutrition based research, as well as research on mammary and reproductive physiology, and transition cow management. In addition, the ability for intensive hands-on learning opportunities makes this facility one of a kind. |

Responsibilities: | Collects samples and administers medication and treatments, in addition to feeding and maintenance responsibilities, to ensure compliance with animal care regulations and support research and instruction.

Qualifications: | The incumbent must be skilled at following oral and written instructions as directed by management and research protocols. Also, the person in this position must understand basic arithmetic functions and be adept at performing them with no guidance. |
Work Schedule: | Schedule will vary based on operational need with normal shift hours from 4:00 AM – 12:30 PM or 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM 5 days a week, with a rotating every other weekend requirement. Note* If the selected candidate is hired on a part-time basis, shifts will be determined by operational need. |

Additional Information: | Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Position requires frequent bending and twisting, along with repetitive motions of hands, wrists, and arms. Must be able to respond quickly to actions of 300-1400 pound animals to prevent being stepped on and/or pinned against a gate. |
