Analytics Lead

Job Purpose

Lead the Analytics Team in delivering the University’s goals of delivering insight and intelligence across the institution.

The role will utilise analytics and data science skills, with the post holder expected to use these skills and problem solving capability to deliver and lead on the key analytical priorities of the university. The role will lead on the analysis and dissemination of key publications and internal data that report on institutional performance and aid in the development of actionable insights. The post holder will work closely with the data engineering, data governance and strategic planning teams.  The post holder will contribute directly in responding to hands on analytical questions, as well as supporting the work of the team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1.      To lead the analytical hub team, organise resource to match delivery and ensure that the team are supported to deliver fully and achieving their full development and skills potential.

2.      To plan for the future needs of the team by ensuring that skills and training are regularly reviewed and updated in the context of strategic business objectives.

3.      Using data science approaches deliver statistically robust analysis and interpretation of various datasets, particularly data pertaining to learning and teaching, integrating with the whole student journey.

4.      Lead on the analysis of key datasets, such as Graduate Outcomes, National Student Survey, League Tables and Student Engagement Survey, working across the institution to communicate results and integrate feedback.

5.      Proactively combine data analytics and wider knowledge to enable insights and recommendations to be created and shared.

6.      Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements, innovations, and new data sources which will benefit the University.

7.      Horizon scan to stay up to date with the latest technology, techniques and methods so as to advance the work of the team.

8.      Act as the contact point for ensuring work is distributed across the wider analytics team.

9.      Pass on technical knowledge to train the team of analysts ensuring a strong focus on continuous professional development.

10.   Using advanced analytical methods support work on forecasting in areas such as student intake, progression and withdrawal.

11.   Represent the team at meetings, external groups/conferences and seminars to keep up to date with national developments and gain and share information/knowledge of working practices in the higher education context.

Knowledge, qualifications, skills, and experience 

Knowledge /Qualifications

Essential:

A1 9,10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline, with a broad range of professional experience in a management role(s).

A2 Knowledge of analytical techniques and their application in providing actionable insight across a business area.

A3 Knowledge of Data Science techniques

A4 Knowledge of Programming Languages (SQL, Python, R)

A5 Knowledge of building dashboards and reporting tools

Desirable:

B1 Active interest in emerging technology relevant to Business Intelligence

B2 Knowledge and experience of University and HE Sector/developments

B3 Knowledge of Alteryx

Skills

C2 Drive, enthusiasm and a high degree of personal effectiveness.

C3 Accuracy and attention to detail and ability to handle large volumes of data.

C4 High levels of numeracy, research and analytical capability.

C5 Strong IT skills.

C7Ability to work to timescales with competing demands and lead and manage a team in this context.

C8 Able to engage with people, building credible relationships.

C9 Presentation skills and ability to adapt delivery to suit audience needs.

Desirable:

D1 Analytical skills using Alteryx to derive data insights

Experience

Essential:

E1 Relevant experience of analysis with qualifications OR evidence of progression and development through more substantial experience.

E2 Experience of working with data and producing a range of data analysis.

E3 Demonstrable experience of using QlikView and Qlik Sense (or similar) to derive data insights from complex data sets.

E4 Hands on experience of using SQL,R, Python.

E5 Staff management and development.

E6 Being able to deliver complex analytical reports to various stakeholders.

Desirable:

F1 Experience of working with corporate business information systems

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 8, £46,047 – £53,353 per annum.

This post is full time and open ended.

Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.
