Physical Requirements | This position requires intermittently sitting at a computer workstation; performing tasks with repetitive motions (such as typing); standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 pounds; lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and occasionally standing or walking with objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Also involves some risk of back injury from moving, lifting or positioning patients, equipment, or materials; risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job; and exposure to blood-borne or airborne pathogens, hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, cuts/punctures, burns, and combative/violent people. |
Shift | Primarily day and early evening shifts. Position supports all UK HealthCare Retail Pharmacy locations which may include coverage at a 24/7 location. Hours and days of the week subject to change based on the needs of the department. |
Job Summary | Compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving written orders from physicians. Reviews and interprets prescriptions and drug profiles to ensure appropriate drug therapy has been prescribed and ensures that drug interactions are considered. Contacts and confers with physicians and other practitioners to optimize drug therapy. Maintains inventory and records on narcotics and other forms of drugs. Participates in the routine supervision and training of technical staff related to daily operations of drug distribution.
