Trout Unlimited is hiring a motivated and highly capable person to grow and manage our river restoration program in Alaska. This position will primarily focus on restoration projects that improve trout and salmon habitat in the Tongass and Chugach National Forests of southeast and southcentral Alaska. A successful candidate will have extensive river restoration experience and conduct work professionally and effectively. We are looking for someone who is flexible and innovative with program activities, can serve as a public representative for TU, and maintain excellent working relationships with staff and project partners. The location for this position is in southeast or southcentral Alaska, with preference given for communities in close proximity to project sites. Bachelor of Science degree; advanced degree (Master of Science or Physical Engineering degree) preferred. At least 5 years of experience working in the field of aquatic habitat restoration, natural resource project management, fluvial geomorphology, hydrologic engineering, civil engineering, or biological systems engineering Strong understanding of river restoration principles, methods, and practices, including understanding engineering design/construction concepts; Experience managing restoration projects from start to finish, including planning, design, construction and monitoring Experience working with federal and state permit processes related to aquatic restoration projects and in-water work. Experience writing, managing and reporting on federal grants. Experience overseeing remote worksites and managing field logistics off the road system preferred. Excellent time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Demonstrated success building and managing budgets. Demonstrated success leading and working within a team and building partnerships. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Strong ability to creatively solve problems. Valid driver’s license. Experience using MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and GIS.
