Understanding of the political landscape in Alaska and demonstrated political acumen:
– Must be comfortable working with legislature, DEED and other stakeholder organizations.

Understanding of P-12 education, higher education teacher programs and higher education environment:
– Must understand teacher preparation programs and the role the university holds in preparing teachers in Alaska.

Expert knowledge of system wide policies and/or responsibilities:
– Knowledge of program and program design aligning with University-level goals and objectives.
– Knowledge of strategic, short- and long-range planning processes and able to recommend process improvements.

Expert communication and administrative skills:
– Expert planning and negotiation skills.
– Excellent public speaking, responsiveness to stakeholders with diplomacy and tact.
– Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources to create comprehensive reports, and formulating responses to inquiries.
– Ability to identify, organize, plan and allocate resources.

Excellent leadership skills – the ability to motivate and build strong relational trust:
– Ability to build successful teams.
– Ability to resolve interpersonal and interdepartmental conflict.
– Ability to analyze complex situations and propose viable solutions and courses of action.
– Ability to develop and initiate sound recommendations to executive management.
