Agri-Business Intern – Grain

Mountaire Farms

To provide exposure to Mountaire’s culture as well as specified areas of our operation in which the intern is designated to during their internship. This program is intended to provide learning opportunities by working hands-on with mentors and completing assigned projects. This Agri-Business internship focuses on execution of the Operational Excellence value discipline within our Delmarva Grain Facility Operations. The assigned project will deal with reducing operational waste and improving grain elevator efficiencies. We will blend in opportunities to learn what is involved in running a grain facility and they will participate in wheat harvest at one or more grain facilities. This internship will also provide the opportunity to be heavily involved and exposed to other Agri-Business activities such as grain merchandising, logistics, and analytics. 

Primary Project

  • Evaluate at least one pre-selected activity where there is an opportunity to more fully align with Operational Excellence principles 
  • Research how others in the industry execute this task differently and evaluate these differences for ease of execution, alignment with Mountaire principles, and overall value 
  • Share recommended activity enhancements with the Grain Facility Management Team 
  • Develop written procedures that can be followed to fully execute any adopted changes 
  • Provide implementation assistance, which may include training of current staff 
  • Document the value brought to our bottom line through execution of recommended changes

Duties/Activities Required by Job

  • Complete assigned project identified by department mentor
  • Attend weekly seminar series across different Mountaire facilities 
  • All interns must be available to travel to Delaware during the last week of the program for final presentations (August 5-9, 2024)
  • All interns are required to complete a 10-minute presentation on their project at the conclusion of summer. Presentations will take place in Millsboro, DE at the Administrative Building during the week of August 5-9th
  • All interns must complete a mid-way evaluation (week 5) along with a final evaluation (week 10)

Educations/Experience Requirements

  • Currently obtaining or have obtained an associates or bachelors degree
  • Serious interest in the field of Agri-Business (grain facilities mgt., grain merchandising, logistics, analytics, finance)
  • Current driver’s license and reliable vehicle to travel to various Mountaire grain facilities (50-mile radius from Millsboro, DE – mileage reimbursement will be provided) 
  • Work in a team environment, introduce new concepts and interact with seasoned professionals
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand processes and data 
  • Excellent math skills, technical writing skills 
  • Ability to work in a grain facility, including dusty and hot environments
