Job Description SummaryThe search will remain open until the position has been filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by August 9, 2024. BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, this position’s primary role includes the advising, preparation, and support of students participating in study away programs, with responsibilities including program liaison, enrollment management, and working with on-campus stakeholders utilizing a team-based student success strategy. Assist in the day-to-day administrative operations of the Office of International Education.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advise students regarding semester, winter, and summer study away opportunities. This includes, but is not limited to, academic advising, program selection, application management in Terra Dotta, program promotion, and visa application advising.

Within a team-based framework, organize, develop, and coordinate in-person and video platforms for student and family audiences to facilitate pre-departure preparation, communications while abroad, and re-entry.

Consistently work on establishing a productive balance of student-URI-parent-partner communications, addressing concerns in a compassionate manner.

Lead study abroad pre-departure orientation and re-entry sessions.

Manage a portfolio of programs including, but not limited to, study abroad affiliate programs, National Student Exchange, and bilateral exchange programs.

Engage in supportive relationships and academic portfolio recommendations aligned with learning objectives of assigned academic programs, departments, and colleges.

Advise students with an understanding of URI degree plans and URI’s General Education Curriculum.

Pursue professional development opportunities in support of role and duties, in alignment with University and office strategic plan, and to contribute to the field of international education.

Assist with emergency support for students while abroad not limited to participating in the International Center 24-hour emergency number response rotation.

Align professional activity with department processes and systems to support accurate, instructional, and easy to understand messaging.

Responsible for program billing, visa support, program evaluations, outreach, insurance enrollments, in-coming exchange program admissions, and annual fair as assigned.

Support unit objectives and vision of the Assistant Director for International Education & Student Mobility, in the development of an accessible student-centered strategy for study away opportunities.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform other duties as required.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers, printers; Microsoft Office Suite, word processing, database management, spreadsheet software.

Required QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

1) Bachelor’s degree.

2) Demonstrated ability to advise students from diverse backgrounds on experiences of transition, adjustment, and navigation of new environments.

3) Minimum of two years dedicated experience working in student advising focused campus offices.

4) Demonstrated experience with high volume advising.

5) Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team based environment.

6) Demonstrated ability to contribute to a professional and collegial office environment.

7) Demonstrated understanding of international education program models.

8) Demonstrated awareness of health and safety issues related to education abroad.

9) Demonstrated multicultural competencies.

10) Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

11) Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

12) Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred QualificationsPREFERRED:

1) Master’s degree.

2) Minimum of two years of experience in international education in a college or university-level study abroad office, OR, as an international education advisor, OR, in educational preparation, study, and/or internships abroad.

3) Demonstrated experience studying, living, or working internationally or on domestic study away.

4) Demonstrated experience working with TerraDotta for Study Abroad or equivalent platform.

5) Demonstrated commitment to working with students from diverse and underrepresented populations in study abroad.

6) Demonstrated experience working with faculty and parents.

7) Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team, managing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
