SUMMARY: This role is responsible for managing all aspects of the adult and transfer recruitment portfolio in the Admissions Office. This position organizes various programs and activities related to the Adult and Transfer portfolio to improve efficiencies and develops related program and project budgets. The position also has an assigned recruitment territory and is accountable for meeting key enrollment metrics. This will be achieved by representing Grand Valley State University both on- and off-campus (in-person and virtual) to prospective students, school personnel, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Supervise, provide vision and direction to assigned direct reports.
  • Recruit transfer/adult students by conducting in-person visits to community colleges in assigned territory. This will also require attendance at college and community fairs and other events where adult populations are anticipated.
  • Develop a comprehensive recruitment plan for assigned population/territory that is aligned with the current Strategic Enrollment Management Plan (SEMP).
  • Participate and lead training activities for the staff supervised.
  • Responsible for supporting orientation activities to include revamping the existing advising and orientation program and continually reevaluating the changed model to ensure we are ahead of the cutting edge.
  • Manage assigned recruitment territory through prospect relationship management, leveraging partnerships, relationships, admission, and enrollment data to maintain consistent recruitment activity, to increase prospective student interaction, and influence admission yield.
  • Assist in the management of the telecounseling program by ensuring selection, training, and supervision and managing all related tasks associated with the telecounseling initiative.
  • Be available during enrollment seasons to manage critical enrollment strategies such as melt prevention and yield attainment.
  • Participate in office-sponsored events and activities, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Previous experience in customer service, education, sales, or related field/position
    • Strong cross-cultural interpersonal and writing skills are necessary, including public speaking skills and the ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations
    • Committment to GVSU’s vision of inclusion and equity
    • Prefer 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Admissions or sales environment, preferably on a college/university campus
    • Experience managing transfer and adult recruitment initiatives preferred
    • Experience working with adult audiences preferred

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Monday through Friday, with evening and weekend work required throughout the year.
    • This position requires the ability to travel to remote locations and to load and transport admissions materials, displays, and other equipment.
    • Evening and weekend hours required, especially during the fall travel season.
    • Admissions counseling occurs primarily by in-person appointments, but also by small group presentations, zoom appointments, phone calls, and emails.

    Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.  May require the need to jog or run in the event of an emergency.  Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 85 pounds.  Stress can be triggered by workload and complex cases.  Occasional stress caused by multitasking, level of responsibility and workload.

    Salary: Approximately $60,000 – $70,000, commensurate with experience
