Job Summary:

We seek an Adolescent Health Coordinator to join the Maternal and Child Health Unit at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS). In collaboration with the UW Population Health Institute, this position is based in the Family Health Section, Bureau of Community Health Promotion, Division of Public Health at DHS. This position is under the general supervision of the Maternal and Child Health Unit Supervisor.
The coordinator is responsible for oversight and management of the Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) with a focus on using an evidence-based comprehensive sexual health education and a positive youth development framework. The incumbent will administer contracts for PREP sub-grantees around the state, including providing fiscal and programmatic oversight to ensure successful implementation of grant activities. The incumbent will collaborate with a team of supporting partners to coordinate trainings, conduct needs assessments, plan and implement programs, monitor program outcomes, and coordinate quality improvement efforts related to the PREP grant. They will also provide leadership for the federal grant application and reporting.
The coordinator will be part of the Adolescent Health Team working toward statewide goals and supporting policy, system, and environmental efforts that support adolescent wellbeing. They will lead efforts for statewide communication related to adolescent health and use a health equity lens to promote diversity and inclusion in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
The Adolescent Health Coordinator performs a high level of independent tasks and technical assistance on a statewide basis with agencies, organizations, and individuals for the promotion of adolescent health. The incumbent fills a critical role by coordinating across departments (such as the Department of Public Instruction and the Department of Children and Families), divisions, bureaus, sections, units, and programs to develop and implement successful, evidence-based prevention and early intervention activities that will improve the health outcomes of adolescents. The coordinator will work with a myriad of external partners including non-traditional partners. Topic areas may include prevention, healthy behaviors, sexual activity, healthy relationships, adult preparation skills, mental health, and health equity, all within the context of a life course perspective.

Responsibilities: Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.
  • 25% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • 15% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • 5% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • 5% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • 5% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • 15% May assist with the monitoring of outreach program budget spending
  • 10% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • 10% Coordinates funding and efforts to support adolescent health including the federal Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP)
  • 10% Leads efforts for statewide communication related to adolescent health

Qualifications:

Required
– Professional or lived experience related to adolescent health or youth empowerment and engagement initiatives
– Minimum 1 year of experience with project management or coordination
– Minimum 1 year of grant management experience
– Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and build partnerships with diverse organizations and teams
– Experience with public health communications such as maintaining contact lists, curating and distributing resources, and developing web and social media content
Preferred
– Knowledge of public health programs, principles, and policy, systems, and environmental change practices
– Experience with federal grant oversight including preparing and monitoring contracts and budgets
– Familiarity with the Positive Youth Development framework and Life Course Model
– Ability to communicate effectively and interpret detailed policies and procedures
– Ability to interpret data and translate data into action
– Ability to lead and facilitate the work of others in collaborative team settings
– Experience with health equity and social justice initiatives
– Critical thinking skills including the ability to raise vital questions, gather relevant information, identify solutions, and communicate effectively with others

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% – 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $62,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
