JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Animal Diagnostic Laboratory (ADL) is seeking a full-time Administrative Support Assistant (level 2) to assist principal staff with reception/office functions, sample receiving/shipping, and the laboratory information management system (LIMS).  Responsibilities include:

  • Greet clients and assist them with sample submission, testing, and pricing

  • Answer phones; assist or direct callers to appropriate laboratory section or personnel

  • Arrange meetings for, and coordinate, Pennsylvania Animal Diagnostic Laboratory System (PADLS) functions

  • Maintain inventory and order office supplies; arrange for equipment maintenance

  • Attend meetings and distribute meeting minutes

  • Assist receiving with sample sorting, data entry and accessioning of cases using USALIMS data base

  • Prepare and send diagnostic specimens to other laboratories

This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding.

Education and Experience:

This position will be filled as a level 2 and typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus 1 year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  The successful candidate must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and demonstrate a genuine appreciation in working with diverse audiences.  Also, must be willing to learn about the ADL to provide information to clients. Some knowledge of veterinary terminology and diseases is a plus.  Demonstrated ability to be flexible and handle a variety of tasks is vital to this role. Rabies vaccination is strongly recommended for this position and would be paid for and provided by the University.
