ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER, Global Languages (GL), to manage the financial, human resources, and administrative operations for MIT’s Global Languages academic unit.  Will assume responsibility for managing all financial, human resources, and administrative operations, which requires communicating effectively across all levels of the unit and acting as liaison with numerous central Institute offices.  Duties include working with the Director on the annual budgeting and planning process, coordinating grant applications, monitoring funded projects, overseeing the monitoring of all cost objects, and preparing budget projections; working with the director on academic searches and appointment/promotion cases, the hiring and review of other academic staff, long- and short-range planning for the unit, curriculum and teaching issues, and initiatives to improve program visibility; hiring and supervising administrative and support staff and providing training and mentoring; managing human resources functions for all staff categories, including the creation of job descriptions, hiring, salary reviews, visa and PR applications, etc.; and overseeing day-to-day facilities issues, including space maintenance and space changes. 


Job Requirements
REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree; five years of administrative and managerial experience, including familiarity with sponsored project management; proficiency with MIT management reporting systems, including SAP, or similar systems; excellent verbal, written, and quantitative communication skills; familiarity with academic programs; diplomacy and good judgment with confidential information; and ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, and students.  PREFERRED:  knowledge of and experience with MIT financial systems and sponsored accounting; proficiency with SAP, COEUS, and electronic proposal submission software; grants management experience; broad understanding of BrioQuery/COGNOS; and MIT experience.  Job #22024-10
