Job Summary

The Legal Record Assistant is responsible for managing attorney insurance and legal request for records.
Additionally, the assistant is responsible for reporting and tracking a breach in medical record information The Legal assistant works closely with attorneys, courts and patients in the resolution of their release of information request. This position performs daily and other scheduled functions using various systems that store health information and is required to review, analyze and make decision regarding the appropriate release of health information.  

Required Qualifications

1.    Completion of Health Information Management course including Legal Aspects of Medical Records
2       Completion of Medical Terminology course
3       Two years’ experience with legal record review and release of information
4       High school graduation
5       Knowledge of California, Federal and HIPAA regulations
General PC knowledge, and working knowledge of EPIC, Microsoft, 3M
6       Aptitude for technical perception and analysis of information in different systems
7       Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

1.    Three years of HIMS (Medical Records) experience in a hospital setting.
2.    Database knowledge and experience.
3.    CMT or ART accreditation
