Position Summary:

The Marnix Heersink Institute for Biomedical Innovation (MHIBI) in the Heersink School of Medicine is seeking an Admin Dir – SOM. This role presents a unique opportunity to help make MHIBI and the UAB Health system the preeminent organization for service to healthcare by building a practice that harnesses new innovative capabilities and helps establish a corporate culture of innovation.    This role supports innovation by consulting with units across UAB and the UAB Health system, identifying opportunities, fostering relationships across the healthcare and emerging tech ecosystem, and managing our open innovation program. Directs the operations of the Innovation team by orchestrating scouting, research, and qualification of solutions for experiments, proofs-of-concepts, pilots, and projects in support of business outcomes and improved experiences for patients and employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Keep current with emerging healthcare and related technologies, trends, and business capabilities that align with strategic priorities.
  • Consult with strategic business units and supporting clinical departments regarding needs and pain points. 
  • Support the innovation pipeline and underlying process which aligns, evaluates, scopes, and resources cross-functional innovation initiatives to achieve optimal business value. 
  • Partner with the Executive Director of Innovation and UAB Health System Leadership and other leaders to evolve and refine the multi-year Innovation roadmap and maturity model.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships across strategic business units and clinical departments.
  • Raise awareness regarding new solutions and capabilities through demonstrations, presentations, and innovation sessions. 
  • Promote UAB-wide participation and development of innovative ideas and concepts. 
  • Explore and standardize methods that support open innovation through a systematic approach to ideation and creative thinking.
  • Identify and deliver value-added innovative solutions that align with the business strategy, technology roadmap, and architecture. 
  • Manage the innovation partnership pipeline, including competitive landscape research, candidate partner identification, selection, and onboarding. 
  • Lead, coach and provide day-to-day guidance to team members, external partners and business departments based on project plans activities, and priorities.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for managing issues between innovation solutions team and business and clinical stakeholders.
  • Working to develop a curriculum, structure and a path with stakeholders 
  • Recruiting the instructors and consultant 
  • Managing the UAB systems to ensure logistical support.
  • Assists with a variety of department and enterprise-wide projects including department research, surveys, and department audits. 
  • Supports process improvement projects and initiatives. 
  • Other assignments or duties as requested by leadership. 
  • Provides excellent service to achieve customer satisfaction for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage all administrative task (HR, Finance, Facilities, etc.) 
  • Serve as the administrative anchor for the team 
  • Day to day management for all staff and programmatic functions 
  • Oversee the graduate council process in partnership with the Asst Dean to create/designee/implement the program.
  • Serve as the liaison between the faculty leaders of the program DPillay, Dr. Lemak, 
  • Developing communication strategy in partnership with Communication Director in the DO 
  • Providing quarterly reports to the Heersink donors 
  • Budget management for the institute and tracking expenditures 
  • Work in partnership with the faculty leadership to realistically outline priorities for the program
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Salary Range: $73,945 – $120,165



Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration or related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
