Job Summary:

The Department of Rhetoric and Language at the University of San Francisco invites applications for a pool of qualified, temporary, part-time instructors to teach on-site in-person and/or hybrid classes for our composition and public speaking programs.

Full Job Description:

We seek candidates experienced in teaching college composition and oral communication courses primarily at the introductory level.  Our curriculum emphasizes rhetoric and argumentation as ethical practices serving social justice, with a developing emphasis on anti-racist pedagogy.  Ideal candidates will share our existing programmatic priorities, including multimodal rhetoric (digital/oral/written), linguistic justice, and developmental/multilingual writing.

Screening of applicants begins immediately and will continue as needed; some appointments may begin as early as the Spring 2023 semester. The number of these temporary, part-time, non-tenure track, academic positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the program. Appointments are offered on a course-by-course basis, and appointment length is based upon course section schedule(s). Appointments may be renewed based on need, funding, and performance. Part-time faculty at USF are unionized, and benefits are listed on the USF Part-Time Faculty Association’s website

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Rhetoric, Composition, Communication, English, or other relevant field
  • Experience teaching in a college/university environment
  • Experience in course design, including creating course objectives and assignments
  • Commitment to support the mission of the University of San Francisco
  • Interest in and experience working in a culturally diverse environment, including a commitment to actively supporting BIPOC student success
