The Ontario Veterinary College Kim & Stu Lang Community Healthcare Partnership Program (CHPP) is seeking applications to fill a 3-year (renewable) contractually limited Assistant or Associate Veterinarian position. The CHPP aims to identify, understand, and remove barriers that impede access to healthcare for animals. The CHPP project is a major curricular innovation providing experiential learning opportunities for veterinary students while providing veterinary health care to pets in made-vulnerable communities. The CHPP provides veterinary care to pets in First Nations communities in Ontario and urban families experiencing housing insecurity, and homeless animals in animal shelters in our region.
Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree, must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in the Province of Ontario, and have two or more years of experience working in companion animal medicine; this experience may include work in shelter medicine, community health/outreach, or clinical practice.
The ideal candidate should have a strong background and interest in providing all aspects of companion animal preventative healthcare, general medicine and surgery for companion animals, and proficiency in spay/neuter surgical techniques. Applicants should document their previous performance in providing outstanding service delivery and patient care, and clinical adaptability through experience in a variety of settings; experience in shelter medicine considered a strong asset for this position. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess experience creating and assessing the outcomes of learning opportunities for adult learners and/or can demonstrate significant student mentoring experience. The successful candidate will work with the healthcare delivery team within the Kim & Stu Lang Community Healthcare Partnership Program (CHPP) to provide clinical services to local partnered animal shelters, and community groups served by the CHPP.
The CHPP works across Ontario serving Urban and First Nations communities with minimal access to veterinary care services. We provide surgical and wellness care services both in person, via telemedicine, and through partnered community clinic relationships. The ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate a desire to obtain and utilize a current knowledge base and skills in community and shelter medicine for companion animals. They will create and assess experiential learning opportunities for veterinary students (years 1-4), who will be respected members of the OVC CHPP Team, and support our CHPP interns and residents with clinical case management and client communications.
This is a full-time appointment (40 hrs per week) providing clinical service and reporting to the Veterinary Director CHPP and the Associate Dean Clinical Program, OVC Health Sciences Centre. Travel is an integral part of this position, both locally (commutable from Guelph) and across Ontario. The successful candidate must be a team player who will work closely with the CHPP team to ensure the best care possible for our patients and deliver outstanding client service.
