Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Medical Office Administrator, the Accounts Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of the medical office billing and accounts receivable systems in an accurate and timely manner. This involves ensuring compliance with university financial policies as well as policies and billing practices dictated by the Ontario Ministry of Health and the Ontario Medical Association. In carrying out these responsibilities, the accounts coordinator recommends policy and procedure changes. The Accounts Coordinator also provides administrative support for the Health Services team and performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures;
• Working knowledge of medical billing procedures;
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
• Attention to detail, accuracy and efficiency are critical attributes required for this position;
• Ability to use tact and diplomacy while working with a diverse client group;
• High regard for strict medical confidentiality;
• Ability to research rejected medical claims and contested medical office fees;
• Excellent working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel;
• Experience with electronic medical record systems;
• Excellent organization skills in order to work independently and prioritize work flow to meet sensitive and demanding timelines;
• Ability to recommend procedure changes in the area of immediate responsibility.
Education and Experience:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Two years of post-secondary education, preferably in accounting or medical office training.
• Five years of directly related experience, of which one year is in a medical office, with progressive responsibility.

Health and Safety Requirements
This position is regularly required to work on campus in person. In the event of a public health emergency or a health and safety issue, it is possible that you may be required to work temporarily remotely due to public health orders, directives and/or health and safety requirements. If this happens, you will work with your direct manager to set up a remote work environment including discussing appropriate technology and requirements. You are required to follow all University policies and directives, including to set up a safe and confidential workspace in a remote location and ensure all Carleton property (intellectual and other) is safeguarded. If required to work remotely, you will be notified by your manager when working full time physically onsite will resume.
